  • General Skilled migration

Australian skilled migration visa application process works:

Skills Assessment: The skills assessment aims to find out your eligibility. Whether you're in Australia or overseas, your skills will be assessed by the most relevant assessing authority.

Expression of Interest (EOI): Here you lodge your interest in General Skilled Migration with the Department of Immigration. It's an online form that covers your qualifications, experience, skills, English language ability and other areas. If you're successful, you'll be invited to apply for a skilled visa.

Invitation: If your EOI is approved, you'll receive an invitation to apply for a skilled visa.

  • Business Skills Migration

Business migration aims to attract business owners and investors to Australia.

If you genuinely want to invest in, establish or purchase an Australian business, this visa might be for you. They can also be a stepping-stone to permanent residency. Australia is one of the best spots to do business, because it has a strong and resilient economy, a culture of innovation and strong ties to Asia.

There are two main types of business migration visas for Australia:

  • BUSINESS INNOVATION AND INVESTMENT
  • BUSINESS TALENT

For the Significant Business History stream: You need net business and personal assets of at least AUD1.5 million and an annual business turnover of at least AUD3 million.

For the Venture Capital Entrepreneur stream: You need at least AUD$1 million in venture capital funding to start commercializing and developing a high-value business idea in Australia.

For both streams, you must also be nominated by a government agency and invited to apply.

  • EMPLOYER-SPONSORED VISA

There are three main types of employer-sponsored visas

  1. Temporary Work Visa: A temporary work visa for up to four years. It requires sponsorship by an employer in Australia.
  2. Employer Nomination Scheme – ENS: A permanent work visa that allows employers to fill skills shortages with overseas workers where there is a local shortage.
  3. Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme – RSMS: A permanent work visa for employers in regional or low-population areas. Easier conditions than the ENS.
  • REGIONAL SPONSORED MIGRATION

Regional-sponsored migration is a permanent work visa that allows employers in regional or low-population areas to fill skills shortages with overseas workers.

What is a regional area?

  • All of Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, ACT, and the Northern Territory
  • New South Wales (NSW) – all areas except Sydney, Newcastle, and Wollongong
  • Victoria – all areas except Melbourne
  • Queensland – all areas except Brisbane

Step 1: Choose an application stream

There are three ways of applying for Regional Sponsored Migration, including:

  • Temporary Residence Transition Stream
  • Direct Entry Stream
  • Agreement Stream

Step 2: Nomination

The employer nominates the employee and must meet certain conditions and benchmarks, including:

  • Actively and lawfully operating in Australia
  • Proving a genuine need for an employee in the nominated occupation
  • Offering a position that is permanent and full-time for a minimum of two years
  • Paying the employee at the market rate
  • Meeting the requirements for the position according to each stream.

Step 3 (Direct Entry Only)

For the Direct Entry Stream, there's an extra step where the sponsoring employer applies to the relevant Regional Certifying Body (RCB). They need to demonstrate.

Step 4: The employee applies for a visa

The employee applies for a visa and must meet certain criteria such as English skills, skills assessments, health and character checks (also applicable to family members on the visa). Unless there's an exemption, the applicant should be under 50 years of age at the time of the application. For the Temporary stream, the employee must have worked for the employee for two years with a 482 visa.

  • Parent Visa: Parents of children who are Australian citizens or permanent residents may wish to apply to live in Australia too.
  • Partner Visa: If you're married or have lived with an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident, this visa might be for you.
